What does it mean to lay down your burdens?

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 22:13)
The first thing we need to consider is who it is that calls us to lay down our burdens. God says He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Do you recognize that you have someone who is stronger than you, who is faithful to His promises, who will not only never forget you, but is your supply?
If we know Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we know “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1) and He calls us to trust Him with our concerns, our worries, our doubts. He is consistent and will NEVER leave us.
If you are reading this, I’m suspecting that you have burdens right now. Things that you are carrying that perhaps God never intended for you to carry in the first place? Something that you “picked up” along the way in your life and haven’t put down?
If you have been dwelling on something for some time or dealing with something and not coming to any resolution, could it be that you are carrying something you weren’t intended to carry? Is it weighing on you? …or something worse? Well, let me encourage you, brother or sister, you can trust God with it. Jesus laid down His life for you and wants to carry it! He wants us to give those things to Him that we have been hanging onto that have no place in our lives.
So, take some time to think about what you have been thinking about. Maybe you already know. When you see what it is, spend some time with the Lord and tell Him that you want to give Him these things that have no business being in your life (remembering that you were called to a life of peace – Col 3:15). Anything that causes confusion, strife, discouragement, division…turn it over to Him…Trust Him to take it and then leave it with Him. Don’t pick it back up again. Remember that He is your Heavenly Father, and wants to carry the load for you and provide all your needs (Phi 4:19).
Blessings on your journey,
Paula
