The Kindness of God

Have you ever pondered the kindness of God?  Perhaps you have seen it in your own life or in the life of another, but have you ever wondered in amazement at how kind He really is?

Last week, I was preparing to teach a Sunday school class for young girls and I thought about this very thing.  What God showed me was amazing…something I wasn't really thinking about.

When we think of kindness, we most often think of grace, or showing us His glory, or bringing us into His presence or sheltering us from a storm, delivering us from some situation or circumstance, revealing truth to us through His Holy Spirit, recognizing His blessings, or leading and guiding us, showing us where He wants us to go, do or say.  This is glorious and deserves reverence.  However, there is another kind of kindness that He reveals to us and that is when He doesn’t allow us to do what we want to do.   Just like a good Father would do.  Ponder that for a minute.

Sometimes we do things that we think are good and, on the outside, they seem to be, but God has a plan for our lives and that plan is what is best.  The Lord, in His kindness, is not going to let us settle for less than His best for us, so He lets us know when we are moving in a direction where we are doing what He doesn’t want us to do.  What a loving Father we have.

May we always respect and trust His kindness and allow Him to redirect us when we get off track, doing something that we think is good, but is not His best for us.  We will do well to listen to Him and allow Him to lead us back to His plan for our lives.

Praise and thanks to our loving Lord, God and Father.  Our hope and our trust is in You and You alone.  We love You, Lord.  Lead us and guide us.  Help us to lean on You.  We thank You for Your loving kindness toward us.  In Jesus’ Name we pray.  Amen.
